Information

As governments dedicate more resources to climate change mitigation and adaptation, green policies create both opportunities and challenges - for industries, firms and workers. How can donors leverage this changing landscape to support employment outcomes? What do early-stage systemic interventions look like in this area? How are implementers reconciling competing objectives (environment, employment and inclusion) in project implementation?

These ‘works in progress’ will be small group discussions hosted by:

  • Jack Steege, Programme Director, Gatsby - sustainable forestry/timber in East Africa
  • Mahlet Seifu Woldeabraham, Team Leader, CEDIS (Zimbabwe), and Joel Kidega, Food Security and Livelihoods Technical Advisor, Mercy Corps - improved working conditions for informal waste pickers in Zimbabwe
  • Freddy Koch, Senior Advisor - Green Cities, Swisscontact - urban mobility transitions and skills systems in Bolivia
  • Will Baron, Country Director Kenya, Mercy Corps - disaster risk management and climate information services for small businesses to protect existing jobs in Ethiopia
  • Sidita Dibra, Advisor Skills Development, Swisscontact and Pavlos Troulis, Regional Director, Swisscontact- tourism sector adaptation to impacts of climate change in Kosovo
  • Mike Klassen will support the small group discussions and work with Steve to facilitate the debrief discussion.
