Information

Industrial and academic sectors face increasingly complex and multifaceted challenges that often rely on both a diverse measurement science toolkit and analytical skillset to drive innovation. We find, and aim to highlight, that creativity in problem solving of these complex challenges is currently occurring at the interface of scientific disciplines and industrial applications. Utilization of tools and techniques, historically employed within a specific field, outside of the traditional use has facilitated unique outside-the-box application-based solutions.
Herein, we aim to showcase the application of cross-industry measurement science tools with interdisciplinary application within both the industrial and academic sectors. For instance, within the building materials industry, flow-through cell dissolution testing – commonly applied with pharmaceutical industry – is being applied towards sustainability in material science innovation. Similarly themed applications are being utilized within the pharmaceutical industry and consumer packaged goods industry and are reflected in the proposed speaker line-up. Cross-disciplinary innovation is also occurring within the academic sector where, in example, innovative mass spectrometry-based solutions are being utilized to solve challenges with biomedical application of asymptomatic malaria detection in sub-Saharan Africa – an effort led by Prof. Abraham Badu-Tawiah’s group.
Highlighting a diverse array of perspectives towards analytical problem solving within these sectors is of utmost value to drive innovation and foster collaboration between entities that may otherwise not interact – thus broadening the community perspective.
