Information

Employment-focused PSD interventions vary dramatically in scale depending on their objectives and context. Numbers can range from hundreds (new jobs) to thousands (people trained), to hundreds of thousands (job matching via digital platforms). This session will explore how donors can set clear parameters for what they mean by ‘employment’ as well as realistic expectations about the scale of results during project design and inception. It will also emphasise the role of implementers in setting expectations and working with donors to ground programme design in reality.

  • Matt Ripley will present key technical framing on the topic of setting targets, drawing on experience from ILO and other MSD programmes.
  • Vasundhra Thakur will share reflections on how 54 Collective (formerly Founders Factory Africa) sets and revises targets
  • Mahlet Seifu Woldeabraham will share her experience as leader of one component of the consortium for the LIWAY programme in Ethiopia.
  • Nicola Fackel from Sida (one of two key donors for LIWAY) will share complementary perspectives from the donor side.
  • Mike Klassen will support the plenary discussion and feedback from participants.
