Multi-sponsored session: From crisis to opportunity: Global leadership in liver cancer prevention
Information
Liver cancer is the third leading cause of cancer death worldwide, a devastating fact made more urgent by its largely preventable nature. Without immediate action, the global burden will rise sharply, yet proven interventions—hepatitis vaccination and treatment, and early detection strategies—offer a powerful opportunity to change the future.
This session will spotlight liver cancer as both a global health crisis and a social equity issue, disproportionately affecting vulnerable communities. It will explore the biggest gaps in prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment, and examine how these can be bridged through political commitment, smart resource allocation, and integration into existing health systems.
Speakers will highlight successes and lessons learned from diverse contexts, demonstrating how real-world progress can be achieved even in challenging environments. Discussions will address cost–benefit evidence, innovations in diagnostics and therapeutics, and the levers that make prevention strategies work.
