During the last six years, the Government of India has undertaken some of the largest & most significan power sector reforms in the world. These reforms have rightfully culminated in India’s world leading position of overall installed renewable energy capacity & country’s power systems undergoing massive transformations. The International Energy Agency now anticipates India’s power system to grow to an installed capacity of up to 1500 GW by 2040, pushing the scale of India’s power market beyond the size of the EU’s synchronised grid, which connects around 1000 GW of installed generation across 27 countries.

While the unprecedented impacts of COVID-19 acutely challenged the progress of the sector, the structural reforms resulted in the pandemic acting as a catalyst for India’s power reforms & energy transition! India’s system operators are today running a power system with very high shares of renewables. As we move into 2021/22, the old thermal power plants would close down for maintenance and refurbishments to meet new environmental regulations. This would further pave the way for the generation mix to have even higher shares of renewables.

With India becoming an increasingly important player in the global energy market, this thought provoking session would bring together top Industry Leaders to share their insights on these emerging trends, decarbonisation roadmaps, mega projects & the bright spots in the exciting Indian Energy Transition 2.0!
