Project Pitch
This project proposes the establishment of a tomato sauce production plant in Namibia to address the country's reliance on imported tomato paste for its fish canning industry. The plant will produce 2,000 tons of tomato sauce annually, supporting local agriculture and strengthening the domestic value chain. Namibia's fish canning industry, which contributes 5% to GDP and generates N$10 billion annually in exports, faces a critical dependency on imported tomato sauce, a key ingredient in canned fish products. Despite domestic tomato sauce production of 1,691 tons/year (valued at N$67.6 million), 99% of tomato ketchup/sauce imports come from South Africa, exposing processors to supply chain vulnerabilities, currency fluctuations, and inflated costs.
