Project Pitch
The European Union has launched a transformative programme aimed at supporting durable solutions for forcibly displaced populations in Ethiopia, including host communities, while also developing a relevant labour migration framework. This initiative is part of the EU Annual Action Plan 2024 and targets internally displaced persons, refugees, returnees, and host communities in conflict- and migration-prone regions such as Benishangul-Gumuz, Tigray, Amhara, and Afar.
A key component of this programme is the project “Enhancing Economic Transformation in Ethiopia’s Fragile Regions.” This 48-month technical assistance project, launched in September 2025, focuses on enhancing job creation and economic opportunities through value chain development.
The programme applies a Market Systems Development (MSD) approach to strengthen agricultural value chains and improve access to EU grant funding, fostering inclusive economic growth, resilience, and sustainable development for vulnerable populations.
