EU–Ethiopia Business Forum 2025: Unlocking the Global Gateway Potential

The EU–Ethiopia Business Forum (EEBF) will spotlight Ethiopia’s economic opportunities and demonstrate how the European Union and its Member States can strengthen their partnership with the country under the Global Gateway strategy. With a population of 130 million and one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, Ethiopia offers significant potential in sectors such as agribusiness, clean energy, health, and digital transformation. EU–Ethiopia trade relations are at their strongest since 2021, and around 300 European companies are already active in the country.

The EU–Ethiopia Business Forum (EEBF) will bring together European and Ethiopian stakeholders in Addis Ababa to strengthen trade and investment ties and showcase Ethiopia’s economic potential. Anchored in the EU’s Global Gateway strategy, the two-day forum will spotlight transformative investments in digital transformation, clean energy, health, and sustainable agri-food value chains, with particular emphasis on digitalisation and renewable energy.

Ethiopia, Africa’s fifth-largest economy and home to over 130 million people, offers significant opportunities for sustainable growth despite recent challenges. With a GDP growth rate above 6% and strong export sectors such as coffee, horticulture, and textiles, the country is increasingly positioned as a regional hub for agribusiness and energy. Around 300 EU companies are already active in Ethiopia, and bilateral trade relations with the EU are at their strongest since 2021.

The Forum will:

  • Showcase Ethiopia as an investment destination, highlighting opportunities aligned with the Global Gateway strategy.
  • Connect EU and Ethiopian businesses, investors, and institutions through high-level panels, networking sessions, and targeted matchmaking.
  • Facilitate partnerships and financing opportunities, including through DFIs, private investors, and innovative funding mechanisms.
  • Promote sustainable, long-term economic cooperation by integrating EU–Ethiopia institutional ties with private-sector initiatives.

Over two days, the Forum will combine high-level panels, thematic sessions, matchmaking, and networking opportunities. Day one will focus on Global Gateway investments, while day two will emphasise business engagement, partnerships, and field visits.
