SEED MULTIPLICATION PROJECT 2

AGRICULTURE
SEED MULTIPLICATION PROJECTProject description The project aims to increase the availability of high-quality and certified seeds of various crops, including maize, rice, soybeans, groundnuts, and sesame, promoting local seed production, increasing self-sufficiency and complementing efforts of international seed suppliers. The project will involve the production, distribution, and marketing of these seeds, and will be implemented on 700 hectares (ha) in Lilongwe District, Central Malawi. Demand for seeds from the local market is high and readily available. With the growing national and regional population, this demand is expected to continue, providing a stable market for the project's products. The project is seeking an investment partner to provide additional capital to support the expansion of the seed production project. It is being implemented on land belonging to Multi Seed Company Limited, in partnership with out grower farmers and the Green Belt Authority, and will be structured as a public-private partnership. With seed processing facilities already installed at the factory and a warehouse constructed, the additional capital will be used to expand the seed production initiative. The Green Belt Authority, is a government of Malawi Corporation, which champions large-scale commercial irrigation through efficient use of land and water resources. Financial requirements Total project costs are estimated at EUR6.5 million (US$7 million) Project feasibility The project’s Internal Rate of Return for this project is estimated at 20.74%. Proposed investment model The proposed investment model for this project is a Business-to-Business (B2B) model, which will enable interested partners to contribute capital to the investment through a shareholding structure. This model will allow partners to invest in the project by purchasing shares, providing a mutually beneficial opportunity for both the project and the investors.
