Hiroaki Umeda, who assumed the role of the first-ever resident choreographer for Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse No.1 in April 2022, has been on a quest beyond the boundaries of choreography since presenting “Moving State” in June 2023. He refers to this exploration as “Behaviour Design,” and to himself as a Behaviour Designer, where he designs the “attitudes” of things in motion. For this performance, Umeda is responsible for the design of motion, sound, and visuals as well as programming. This stage consists of two new works: a solo piece titled “assimilating,” which Umeda himself will be performing, and “Moving State 1,” performed by dancers from his Somatic Field Project. It presents a new dance aesthetic where refined physicality merges with media art.
