Description
As the winds of reformation blow at the end of the Edo period and the American Civil War comes to a close, former Black slaves, now set free, set out on a boat for Africa, only to drift ashore in a small feudal domain in Japan. With Japan under a policy of national isolation, a local official, not knowing what to do with them, puts them in jail. The lord of the domain, Okubo Noriyoshi (Yudai Chiba), however, is a man brimming with curiosity, and is entranced by the music the men play. Despite the protests of his chief retainer, Ishide Kurozaemon (Takashi Fujii), jam sessions begin to be held throughout the feudal castle. The daimyo’s enthusiasm lasts until...
