Pel-Freez Biologicals is the world's largest manufacturer of baby rabbit complement, which is considered by the WHO to be the gold standard complement source for many functional antibody assays for vaccine efficacy testing including opsonophagocytic assays (OPAs) and serum bactericidal assays (SBAs).
Our baby rabbit complement is produced under carefully controlled conditions in our USDA-inspected, ISO-certified facility from large pools of New Zealand White rabbits that are 3-4 weeks old, before they have developed adaptive immune response to many environmental pathogens. This provides a product that has low heterophile antibody activity for many applications as their sera is generally devoid of antibodies that interfere with many of the assays conducted to measure vaccine efficacy.
At Pel-Freez these rabbits are supplied by a robust network of farmers that adhere to strict USDA guidelines. These rabbits are carefully selected and treated according to the strictest humane animal welfare guidelines.
