SOLARSTRATOS TO THE EDGE OF SPACE
Film
Information
SolarStratos is a futuristic challenge led by Swiss eco-explorer Raphael Domjan, who has designed a solar powered aircraft with the aim of flying it to the stratosphere. The aircraft can fly up to 82,000 feet high, with over 230 square feet of solar panels, a wingspan of over 81 feet and a weight of less than 1,000 pounds. In 2018, SolarStratos became the first manned aircraft to fly into the stratosphere, 33,000 feet above the Earth’s surface. This is a major aeronautical feat on the edge of space, where temperatures can drop to as low as –90°F and not a molecule of oxygen can be found.
