Beyond the declaration: Actionable policies for delivering on NCD and cancer targets
Information
This session is co-organised with the London School of Economics and Roche
Background:
Health systems globally are under mounting pressure due to the rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), driven by aging populations, workforce shortages, and financial constraints. Without transformative action, there is a risk of overemphasis on cost-containment measures that restrict access to quality care and innovation. To address this, governments and stakeholders must collaborate to ensure the right care is available in the right place at the right time—providing high-quality, affordable, and efficient services while achieving better outcomes.
Session Objectives:
● Advancing the Urgency of NCD Policy Reform: By linking the discussion to the recent UN High-Level Meeting (HLM) on NCDs and its NCD declaration, the session contextualizes the urgency for action. This creates an opportunity for stakeholders to prioritize reform in their own countries while NCDs remain on global health agendas.
● Sharing Evidence-Based Best Practices: This session will present key findings from a Roche-commissioned LSE evidence base. This evidence highlights proven and successfully implemented policy reforms, identifying both the barriers and enablers for their success. An illustrative example will also be shared.
