Château Branas Grand Poujeaux sits on the Grand Poujeaux plateau in Moulis-en-Médoc, on the same gravel vein that runs from Mouton Rothschild to Margaux. Since Justin Onclin acquired it in 2002, the estate has invested heavily in vineyard and cellar. Winemaker Arjen Pen has led the team since 2018, and Hubert de Boüard (Château Angélus) has worked alongside it since 2012. Neal Martin of Vinous has said Branas has been performing at Grand Cru Classé level for many vintages.
The philosophy is precision over volume. Each parcel is vinified separately, then aged about 16 months in barriques and amphorae. The estate is HVE certified.
The range:
Château Branas Grand Poujeaux: the flagship Médoc blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.
Branas Eclats: the second wine, suited to hotels and restaurants.
Marpaout: a limited single-parcel Merlot, scored 98 points by The Drinks Business and positioned as a Médoc icon.
Parcelle Marcotte: a still Blanc de Noirs from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, a distinctive story for sommeliers and adventurous buyers.
