Pitch | Conrad Tao + Julia Wolfe + Third Coast Percussion
Information
Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and MacArthur Fellow Julia Wolfe is composing a major new work for acclaimed pianist and composer Conrad Tao and GRAMMY® Award-winning quartet Third Coast Percussion (TCP). Wolfe's work will be in dialogue with a beloved classic of the piano repertoire, the Preludes by Claude Debussy, re-imagined for piano and percussion quartet. A new work by Tao for TCP rounds out this evening of virtuosic music-making.
As percussionists, the members of TCP have almost no leading role to play in any classical music composed before the 1930s, despite their background as classical musicians. This project imagines an alternate reality where Claude Debussy was able to compose for the modern percussion ensemble, marrying his singular compositional voice with the vast array of sounds at Third Coast Percussion's disposal. The music on this program will be recorded at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity for release by Cedille Records in Spring 2028, when the project will tour.
We are seeking co-commissioners and performance opportunities.
