Information

A journey through the heart of American roots music, centered around Tom Rigney’s distinctive and emotionally expressive fiddling, and featuring his energetic and heartfelt singing, the ensemble delivers a program of originals and covers that blends Cajun and zydeco dance grooves with blues, roots-rock, Celtic, and global influences.

Rhythms are drawn from South Louisiana traditions drive the band, while Rigney’s violin sings with passion, grit, and lyrical beauty. Flambeau functions as a true ensemble (fiddle/vox, piano/keyboard, guitar, bass, drums), with dynamic interplay and tight arrangements that showcase both individual musicianship and collective fire. The band’s sound is polished but never predictable – rooted in tradition while constantly evolving. A showcase performance highlights the breadth of Rigney’s writing, fiddling, and vocal prowess as well as the band’s versatility, with exciting moments alongside passages of nuance and intimacy. It’s music that honors the past, lives fully in the present.
