Juried Showcase | Marty Isenberg’s The Way I Feel Inside

The Way I Feel Inside uses the concept of a mixtape as a collage of media to share a personal story. Led by New York City bassist Marty Isenberg, the showcase features excerpts from the band’s multimodal, theatrical touring jazz concert. The performance fuses autobiographical narrative with the improvisational spirit of jazz, performed by a lineup of rising stars from the NYC jazz scene. The work stands out for its theatrical storytelling, unconventional format, and curated tributes to iconic misfit artists – from punk to soul to pop – whose outsider voices helped shape Isenberg’s musical identity.
