An AImpact event, The Great Debate offers an unconventional yet intellectually engaging experience that combines humor and academic rigor. With a nod to the dramatic, the debate poses a deliberately hyperbolic question: "Will AI destroy or save humanity?"

The event features a formal debate structure to ensure depth but does so with a wink, inviting panelists and attendees alike to explore the complexities of AI in a light and accessible manner.

Format

In this tongue-in-cheek confrontation, two spirited teams—the Eternal Optimists and the Devil's Advocates—will go head-to-head in a formal debate structure. Each team consists of two AI entrepreneurs from diverse disciplines, such as marketing, technology, media, and education. They will spar over the event's central and deliberately provocative question while delving into nuanced discussions about AI's ethical, social, and economic implications.

Intent

While the debate's title question may be theatrical, the intent is serious: to challenge assumptions, encourage critical discourse, and ultimately deepen our collective understanding of AI. The event seeks to infuse a sense of humor into an often serious subject, making it more approachable while still maintaining intellectual integrity.
