The rapid growth of augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) technologies is creating new challenges for display measurement. The Radiant XRE Lens has been specifically engineered for the evaluation of near-eye displays, providing accurate and repeatable measurement under conditions that closely replicate human vision. It is designed to simulate the size, position and field of view of the human eye, enabling display performance to be assessed as it is actually experienced by the user.
Unlike conventional imaging optics, the XRE Lens places its entrance pupil in front of the lens, allowing measurements to be taken from the eye position within a headset. This enables capture of a field of view up to 70° while avoiding obstruction from headset hardware, making it ideal for modern XR device evaluation.
Available in both folded ("periscope") and non-folded configurations, the XRE Lens supports a wide range of headset designs. Paired with Radiant ProMetric imaging colorimeters and photometers, it enables comprehensive assessment of luminance, chromaticity, contrast, image distortion, focus uniformity, image position and modulation transfer function (MTF). Electronic focus control allows focal distance adjustments to be performed entirely through software, supporting rapid, highly repeatable and fully automated test workflows.
As Micro LED technology drives the next generation of XR displays, the XRE Lens provides developers and manufacturers with a powerful tool for validating optical performance, optimising image quality and ensuring an immersive visual experience.
