Public Demo by DP Patterning and ams OSRAM

DP Patterning and ams OSRAM, a global leader in light and sensor solutions, have developed a joint demonstrator showing how future automotive lighting can be produced more cost-effectively and with significantly lower CO₂ impact. Ams OSRAM’s Open System Protocol (OSP), combined with the AS1163 smart LED driver, enables hundreds of light points, sensors, and actuators to be connected through a single continuous line. This simplifies system architecture, reduces the need for complex multilayer PCBs, and enables the use of DP Patterning’s sustainable printed flexible circuits. “By combining intelligent LED control with DP Patterning’s flexible PCB technology, we unlock new design freedom for automotive interiors while enabling more sustainable lighting solutions,” says Andrea Maria Saraceno, Application Engineer at ams OSRAM. The collaboration began in April 2025, with the demonstrator first presented at productronica in Munich in November. “Customers benefit from both lower costs and reduced environmental impact using our flexible circuits. We are excited to see how ams OSRAM applies this technology in a smart, energy-efficient solution, and we are looking to expand with new partners,” says Staffan Nordlinder, CEO of DP Patterning. DP Patterning’s patented Dry Phase Patterning (DPP) replaces traditional wet etching with a dry, chemical-free process, reducing manufacturing impact by up to 98%. Using aluminium instead of silver lowers material costs, while faster production and simpler handling further improve efficiency. Scalable production Developed in Norrköping, Sweden, the technology has become a scalable solution used across industries including automotive, consumer electronics, MedTech, and aviation. The next step is to establish regional micro-plants for high-volume production closer to customers.
