Danish Technological Institute - Smart Wearables through Printed Electronics
Electronic Textiles RESHAPED October 2026
TechBlick Event
Information
This presentation provides a comprehensive overview of the smart wearable technologies developed at the Danish Technological Institute (DTI), encompassing the full value chain from e-textile manufacturing and standardised testing methodologies to functional demonstrator systems for physiological monitoring and human activity recognition.
DTI's smart textile services span the complete production cycle of e-textiles, including consultancy, proof of concept work, full system prototyping, upscaled pilot production and testing/validation. Rigorous qualification of e-textile reliability is ensured through standardized IPC test methods covering wash durability, abrasion resistance, tensile and stretch behavior, and climate exposure under controlled temperature and humidity conditions.
Several demonstrator systems will be presented. A printed EMG electrode system, targeting musculoskeletal disorder prevention, laminated into a textile arm sleeve with a detachable wireless electronics unit for continuous forearm muscle monitoring. A cardiovascular monitoring platform integrating three sensor technologies, impedance cardiography (ICG), electrocardiography (ECG) and a six-axis IMU into a wearable vest or belt, demonstrating human activity recognition through multimodal sensor fusion. A printed e-textile heater system with integrated material based temperature control, validated for full washability and mechanical robustness, just to name a few.
