Manchester Metropolitan University department of nursing provides a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, post registration and professional development educational programmes and research degrees for over 600 students. Our Nursing academic team have real insight and experience of practising nursing in the workplace across all of the roles that we teach and have been recognised by the Student Nursing Times for consistent excellence in nursing being shortlisted for or winning awards every year since 2012. All of our academic staff have expertise of working as registered nurses, health visitors, mental health nurses or advanced practitioners and teach across a range of professionally focused healthcare programmes. Our award-winning Brooks building features high-tech clinical suites and simulation laboratories providing a realistic interpretation and safe learning space to ensure clinical proficiency of our students. We also provide our students with a technologically enhanced learning experience by utilising Virtual Reality to understand how to treat patients and rehearse care protocols in our VR cave and with our virtual Birley Place virtual community. Across the department, our staff and students have a wide range of research interests and expertise including diabetes, mental health, acute nursing, ophthalmology, women’s health, obesity and dementia. Our research directly informs our courses and our active links with current practice ensures that our curriculum is real, relevant and in-line with current NHS standards of delivery.
