Brill Power develops intelligent battery management and control technology to increase the lifetime and reliability of lithium-ion battery packs for stationary energy storage and electric vehicles. Our product is a game-changing combination of hardware and software that optimises the use of lithium-ion cells within a battery pack. The BrillMS system also delivers safety and sustainability benefits.
Because battery cells do not degrade uniformly over time, battery packs underperform, behaving only as well as their weakest link (weakest series-connected module). Therefore, packs must be oversized by up to 20% to meet lifetime requirements. It also means that when one series-connected module dies, the entire pack is sent to waste creating significant, unnecessary battery waste. By managing the cells within a pack more intelligently, Brill Power can extend battery lifetime by up to 60% or deliver up to 15% more energy at a point in time when a conventional battery system would be discarded.
Brill Power is a 2016 spin-out company from the University of Oxford. Brill Power has four active founders and is now a team of fifteen. We work with organisations across the battery industry including manufacturers of stationary energy storage, automotive OEMs and suppliers, and world leading universities.
