Information
The Chromatography Forum of the Delaware Valley awards an individual who is an outstanding scientist in the field of chromatography, the Dal Nogare Award. The awardee is selected based on their contributions to the fundamental understanding of the chromatographic process. The 2026 awardee is André Striegel he received his Bachelor’s (1991) and Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry (1996) both from the University of New Orleans. He then performed postdoctoral research (1996-1998) at the US Department of Agriculture’s National Center for Agricultural Utilization and Research. From 1998-2004 he worked for Solutia, Inc. (now part of Eastman Chemical), reaching the rank of Research Specialist. André left industry for academia, serving as assistant professor, tenure-track, at Florida State University (FSU), from 2004-2011, where he taught analytical and polymer science and helped establish the materials chemistry program. Since 2011, André has been at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), where he currently serves as Scientific Advisor in the Material Measurement Laboratory’s Chemical Sciences Division. He is the author of nearly 100 peer-reviewed publications, most in the area of macromolecular separation science; editor of the book Multiple Detection in Size-Exclusion Chromatography; lead author of the second edition of the book Modern Size-Exclusion Liquid Chromatography; and author of the soon-to-be-published book Macromolecular Separation Science. He is previous Associate Editor of the Encyclopedia of Analytical Chemistry; current (since 2015) editor of the journal Chromatographia; and serves or has served on the editorial boards of various analytical, chromatography, and polymer science journals. He was the recipient of the inaugural ACS DAC Award for Young Investigators in Separation Science, of the Eli Lilly Analytical Chemistry Grantee Award, of an FSU First Year Assistant Professor Award, and of a Solutia Technical Achievement Award for his work in private industry. André was also the inaugural Professor in Residence for Preservation Research and Testing at the US Library of Congress. His main scientific interests lie in the area of macromolecular separation science, both applied and fundamental, and he regularly lectures and teaches short courses in this area at meetings worldwide.
