Information

Microplastics have emerged as a critical environmental and regulatory concern yet accurately identifying and quantifying them in complex matrices remains a challenge. In this workshop, Shimadzu and Frontier Labs will demonstrate an end-to-end approach to microplastics characterization using Pyrolysis–Gas chromatography–Mass spectrometry (PY-GCMS).
Attendees will gain insights into sample collection and preparation across soil, water, and biotic matrices, with strategies for minimizing contamination and improving reproducibility. We will explore the analytical theory behind PY-GCMS, including the strengths of Pyrolysis combined with GCMS, and how this workflow compares to complementary techniques.
The session will feature practical guidance on method development, polymer and additive identification, and streamlined data processing using dedicated libraries. Real-world case studies will illustrate how to interpret complex environmental data and generate reports aligned with evolving regulations.
Whether you are new to microplastics research or looking to refine your analytical workflow, this workshop will provide actionable insights to tackle today’s microplastic challenges with confidence.
