Olfactory receptors, the next door for the future disruption

The detection of volatile chemicals by olfactory receptors (ORs) is the starting point of the smell. It is a sense that plays an important social and emotional part due to its connection with the limbic system. It also plays an important role in the regulation of mood and smell. Recent studies show that ORs are not exclusively expressed in the olfactory neurons. ORs are also observed in other human tissues with limited data available for their functional roles. They have the potential to serve as diagnostic and therapeutic tools. Further investigations could prove the basis of aromacology and how the aromatic compound affect the well-being.
