Wish You Were Here
XR Art Fair: projects
Information
XR promises a chance to be “inside”, it strives to create a sense of being “there”, a chance to step into somebody's life and even simulate being someone else. But to what extent can we really look through someone else's eyes, and above all, how much are we really ready to see and feel?
In “Wish You Were Here”, we meet Aneta, who at the time of filming is 36 and diagnosed with breast cancer. The window of her house overlooks a walnut orchard slowly turning into a new housing estate. The experience is a classic documentary, but thanks to VR technology that expands the frame we are given an opportunity to see behind the scenes of the making of the experience, which is becoming an anti-documentary and breaks the illusions of an intimate encounter with the protagonist.
Revealing the backstage of the “making of” is also a gesture of unveiling the process of watching it. The situation constructed in this way is a pretext for examining the relationship between the participant and the protagonist, as well as for asking questions about empathy and compassion.
The film is the first project made by the rules of the Dogma XR manifesto, in which the filmmakers consciously do not create the illusion of the viewer being in a world other than theirs. They don't blur the elements of film equipment in post-production, they don't hide from the camera, and also the sound in the film is sound collected on set, not created in post-production.
