Dragados with TfL: Bank Station Capacity Upgrade Project
Tunnelling Project of the Year (up to $500M)
About this entry
Entry Title
Bank Station Capacity Upgrade Project
Long Description of Entry
The $870m Bank Station Capacity Upgrade (BSCU) project has led the way in urban tunnelling, successfully delivering one of the most complex tunnelling projects in recent decades. Over 1.3kms of tunnels were constructed, weaved between the existing 100-year-old underground tunnel network, and excavated under an incredibly complex part of London, with 31 listed buildings bordering the project in the heart of the City of London. Notably, the tunnels were constructed with no impact to the operational railway or the 52 million passengers who use the station each year. Dragados maximised the opportunities of a Design and Build Contract by focusing on optimising the tunnel design to provide an efficient, high-value buildable solution that was self-delivered. A 'Best for Bank' ethos was established on the project, which created an open, collaborative, focused and creative problem-solving culture. This allowed the Client and Contractor to collaborate harmoniously throughout the life of the project, a key factor in its success. This multi award winning (see appendix documentation – Project Achievements) tunnelling project was delivered to a high specification with minimal impact on surrounding assets while maintaining a tight programme and cost.
