A welcome letter to all delegates from editor of New Civil Engineer, Claire Smith: 

New Civil Engineer’s Tunnelling Festival has always been an international event with delegates coming from around the world to talk about projects on a global stage but the move to a virtual event creates greater opportunities for participation than ever before.

The challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic means that the conference and awards have moved online this year, what has not changed is the calibre of the speakers and quality of the content planned across the two day event. The virtual format has the added advantage of being able to watch sessions on demand at a later date but, by joining the sessions live, you will still have the opportunity to put questions to our speakers.

Project case studies planned will cover progress on the Grand Paris Express, Copenhagen City Metro and Tideway, while panel debates will look at the carbon and diversity challenges facing the tunnelling sector and keynote sessions will look how the industry needs to innovate and evolve for the future.

The virtual platform we have selected for these events means that the networking opportunities available at a physical event are replicated in the virtual environment but with a few benefits.
