Nimba Ecolodge & Reserve is an ecotourism facility situated in the East Nimba Nature Reserve (ENNR) encompassing the Nimba Mountains. The Mountain Lodge was envisioned as an environmentally and financially sustainable means of managing the vast landscape of over 11,553 hectares that is ENNR through Nature Preservation, Community Development and Promotion of Tourism. It is a social venture undertaken by Jos Travel & Tours and Libassa Ecolodge in a partnership that taps into the expertise and experience of both entities as pioneers in the travel and ecotourism sector of Liberia.

Project Pitch

Lake Teleh Ecotourism Project: Project Goal: The overall objective of the Lake Teleh Ecotourism Project is to restore the degraded Lake Teleh to its natural state and establish a world-class ecotourism facility that promotes nature preservation, empowers local communities through sustainable employment, and boosts tourism in Nimba County, by rehabilitating and remodeling the Sanniquellie Public Market into Nimba County Public Museum contributing to Liberia's tourism.

Project Objectives:

  1. Objective 1: Restore Lake Teleh's ecosystem by removing pollutants and vegetation, achieving at least 80% water quality improvement within the first year.
  2. Objective 2: Construct eco-friendly infrastructure, including 20 cabins and support facilities, to accommodate up to 5,000 visitors annually while minimizing environmental footprint.
  3. Objective 3: Rehabilitate and remodel the Sanniquellie Public Market into the Nimba County Public Museum after the current market relocation exercise to new site on the outskirt of Sanniquellie City is completed by the county Authority. Attract 10,000 annual visitors to the museum. Train 50 community members in ecotourism operations, ensuring gender balance (50% women) and youth inclusion. Create 60-80 direct jobs during 2 years construction phase and 20 – 45 Long term jobs upon completion of construction.
  4. Objective 4: Implement marketing and sustainability strategies to generate USD $500,000 in annual revenue post-project, funding ongoing conservation.

Organizational Leadership: Mr. Joseph N. Wamah, Sr. Chairman BoD, Nimba Ecolodge and CEO of Jos Travel & Tours, brings with over 36 years of travel and tourism experience to the project. He has led Jos Travel to become a powerhouse in Liberia’s travel and tourism industry. Under his leadership, the company has hosted all major global carriers in post-war Liberia, serving as their General Sales Agent (GSA), entrusted with handling all their commercial activities in Liberia. Mr. Rudolph Antoune, Vice-Chairman BoD, Nimba Ecolodge and Co-founder of Libassa Ecolodge is a key partner in Nimba Ecolodge & Reserve, he brings over 16 years of experience in developing eco-friendly resorts in Liberia. His leadership has transformed underutilized natural sites into sustainable tourism destinations, emphasizing environmental conservation and community engagement. Under his direction, Libassa Ecolodge became Liberia's first eco-resort, integrating solar power, waste management systems, and local employment programs. He led the development of Kokon Ecolodge, Warkolor Jungle Lodge and Nimba Ecolodge. This expertise will ensure the Lake Teleh Ecotourism Project aligns with global sustainability standards while delivering economic benefits to local stakeholders.
