LGC Summit 2022
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Manchester for the LGC Summit, after what has been yet another eventful 12 months.
As many of you will know, this event was originally scheduled to take place in September but was postponed following the sad death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Just two months later and we find ourselves with a new prime minister and chancellor, whose autumn statement last week set the parameters for what looks certain to be another challenging period for local government.
But though the immediate pressures - such as inflation and the cost of living crisis - are significant, I know the sector is determined not to lose sight of the longer term challenges, whether that be the transition to net zero, levelling up or vital reform to social care.
Over the next 24 hours we will discuss all this and more during what is always a stimulating and revitalising event.
I am sure that through the excellent speakers on our formal programme and the networking that will take place at the margins we will all come away with much to think about and talk about with colleagues.
I would like to thank our sponsors, speakers, staff and delegates for what I am sure will be a hugely rewarding time together.
