Centre for Proteomics

Protein & receptor characterisation

Information

The Centre for Proteomics (CfP) is the core facility for proteomics and mass spectrometry that houses state of the art liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry equipment from both University of Antwerp (UAntwerpen) and VITO. With joined forces, UAntwerpen and VITO share this infrastructure and expertise with both internal and external partners in academia and industry. The Centre for Proteomics focuses on the multidisciplinary field of proteomics and consists of a consortium of research units with complementary expertise. Research Interests 1. Translational research – from bench to bedside ▪Optimization of sample preparation from various relevant clinical samples: E.g. Isolation and characterization of extra-cellular vesicles and exosomes from plasma or urine, membrane protein enrichment, etc. ▪MALDI imaging on tissue to enable in-depth proteomic analysis ▪Clinical proteomics/peptidomics for protein identification, characterization (post-translational modifications) and quantification (label based and label free) ▪Targeted proteomics/peptidomics for validation of quantification 2. Data Science ▪Data mining and bio-informatics for proteomics and mass spectrometry ▪Development of software suites for customized analysis 3. Supporting biotech and pharma industry With the combination of easy clinical sample access, optimized sample preparation for various sample types, a broad range of proteomics technologies and data science, our consortium (UAntwerpen/VITO/UZA) can provide customized solutions for pharma and biotech companies in their search for protein profiles that can aid in better diagnostics, patient stratification, therapy response, …
