The JUPITER Research and Early Access Program (JUREAP) aims to maximize the success of JUPITER, the first European Exascale supercomputer, and give researchers a unique opportunity for early science on the sytem. JUREAP is a holistic program in close collaboration between Forschungszentrum Jülich/JSC, EuroHPC JU, GCS, ParTec, Eviden, NVIDIA, and SiPearl. The program will target collaboration with about 20 lighthouse applications on JUPITER that are balanced in terms of methods (including AI) and scientific domains to push the boundaries of HPC beyond the state of the art. JUREAP will not only enable full-scale runs, but also support their execution, analysis, and publications. A key method will be the integration of the applications as continuous benchmarks to systematically ensure smooth build-up of JUPITER and explore the new technologies of the system. The program started with an enablement phase (SPEP, the Scalability and Performance Evaluation Phase). In this phase, candidates prepared their applications for JUPITER and evaluated scalability on pre-exascale systems. Applications with proven scalability pass to the next phase (POP, the Porting and Optimizing Phase), focusing on optimization on JUPITER itself, and have the opportunity to apply for the third and last phase of JUREAP, called Outstanding Research Phase (ORP). The ORP will allow candidates to perform outstanding research at Exascale-size scale and move current scientific limits. JUREAP is rounded off with several dissemination activities, showcasing the results achieved and challenges solved. These activities will target not only the scientific community, but also the general public.
