Plasma facing components technology and manufacturing - Mapping Workshop

Plasma facing components technology and manufacturing - Mapping Workshop

This workshop, hosted by Fusion for Energy will be the opportunity to explore the current status and key development needs on the road to sustainable fusion power for in vessel technologies including first wall, divertor and cooling manifolds.

Return of experience from Iter highlights the need for cost effective, volume production of plasma facing components, while maintaining performance and adapting to advancing materials.

Participants are invited to contribute, learn and network over a range of in vessel and plasma facing topics: plasma facing armor materials, tungsten alloys, functionally graded tungsten, irregular tungsten powder, ductile tungsten composites, nanostructured tungsten, tungsten fiber reinforced composites, 3D print direct to heat sink, ductile ceramics, bonding technologies, Hot Isostatic Pressing, sacrificial spacers (HIP), hexagonal/isotropic tiles, coatings, simulation of thermal fatigue, additive manufacture of armor and heat sink, tailored flow patterns, micro channel heat exchangers, coolant channel extrusion in bulk materials, Eurofer low activation steels, CuCrZr development, Jet Impingement Cooling, activated corrosion products in cooling water, plasma/armor interactions, Ph effects in cooling water, design for remote maintainability, remote cooling pipe maintenance, armor repair techniques, self-healing materials, liquid metal layers.

The main objectives of this workshop are to:

• Identify R&D opportunities,

• Facilitate the exchange of knowledge,

• Foster collaboration and partnerships.

The workshop consists of two sessions:

• An online kick-off meeting held on February 11, 2026 (0.5 days).

• An in-person meeting *location TBD* on March 25 2026 (1.5 days).

The available slots are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Please make sure to register as soon as possible to secure your spot.

The platform will remain available after your registration. Use it to stay up to date with all the news, access the consolidated agenda, connect with other participants, and explore many other features!
