International Rescue Committee

Information

Our world faces a new geography of crisis. As global funding is shrinking, the impacts of conflict, climate change and economic shocks are increasingly converging in a handful of states.

Each year, the International Rescue Committee’s (IRC) Emergency Watchlist shines a light on the countries at greatest risk of new or worsening humanitarian crises. Today those 20 countries are home to just 11% of the world’s population, but 82% of those in humanitarian need, 77% of those forcibly displaced, and 73% of the people facing crisis or worse levels of food insecurity.

This photo exhibition provides a snapshot into four of the countries towards the top of the IRC’s Emergency Watchlist: Sudan, occupied Palestinian territory, Syria and Mali. Each characterised by growing fragility, these are some of the countries where the international community must focus its efforts.

Come and meet some of the IRC’s inspiring clients and staff who are living and working in Watchlist countries. Learn more about our innovative solutions to tackle the challenges faced by people in fragile states. And as some donors step back from humanitarian and development projects, join our calls for the EU to meet the gravity of the moment - in particular through the creation of an integrated EU ‘fragility framework’ to better support people in the world’s most fragile contexts.
