Caritas Austria in collaboration with Caritas Ukraine and Caritas Syria
Information
The world is increasingly facing multiple crises, with unstable political situations causing widespread uncertainty and suffering. In such turbulent times, humanitarian aid has become essential to provide relief to vulnerable populations who are often caught in the crossfire. The exhibition of photos highlights the impactful projects funded by the European Union in Syria and Ukraine, showcasing the vital humanitarian aid and support provided in these crisis-stricken regions. Through these powerful images, visitors can witness how the EU’s funding has helped rebuild communities, provide essential services, and bring hope to those affected by conflict.
More than a decade of war in Syria and three years of full-scale war in Ukraine have left millions in urgent need of protection and humanitarian assistance. In Ukraine, continuous attacks on civilian areas have displaced millions, leaving children, women, and the elderly particularly vulnerable. In Syria, economic collapse and prolonged instability have exacerbated existing hardships, forcing families to adopt desperate coping strategies just to survive. As conflicts persist, support from Europe remains crucial in safeguarding lives and upholding human dignity.
This exhibition showcases Caritas’ protection efforts in both countries, focusing on those most affected by war. In Ukraine, frontline communities receive critical support, including case management, legal aid, and psychosocial assistance through mobile and stationary crisis centres. Child-Friendly Spaces provide children with therapy and informal education to help them heal from trauma and regain stability in their disrupted lives.
In Syria, where economic devastation has deepened humanitarian needs, the projects provide direct assistance through multipurpose cash transfers, ensuring families can meet their basic needs with dignity. Protection services include case management, specialized in-kind support, and structured psychosocial programs for all age groups.
Led by Caritas Austria, in collaboration with Caritas Syria, Caritas Ukraine, and local partners, this initiative highlights the urgent need for continued humanitarian engagement from Europe. Through powerful photography and real-life stories, this exhibition sheds light on the resilience of those affected and the vital role of protection in times of crisis.
