Project Pitch

The Agro-Processing and Export Aggregation Zones project aims to unlock West Africa’s agricultural potential by developing integrated hubs that connect farmers, processors, and export markets. Although the region produces large quantities of commodities such as cocoa, cashew, rice, sesame, shea, and palm products, much of the produce is exported raw or lost due to poor storage, limited processing facilities, and weak logistics infrastructure. This project addresses these challenges by establishing strategically located zones that aggregate produce, provide modern processing facilities, and link farmers directly to regional and global markets.

The business model is based on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) blended finance approach, combining investments from governments, development finance institutions, and private investors. Revenue will be generated through processing services, storage and cold-chain facilities, export aggregation and trading, logistics services, and quality certification for international markets.

Operationally, the system begins with farmer aggregation hubs, where produce is collected and sorted. Commodities are then stored in modern warehouses or cold-chain facilities to preserve quality. Processing plants convert raw produce into higher-value products, while quality laboratories ensure compliance with export standards. Finally, logistics hubs transport finished products through regional trade corridors to global markets. This integrated model reduces post-harvest losses, increases farmer incomes, and strengthens agricultural exports across West Africa.

Team

The team consists of European experts in development and consulting, with strategic engagement with the EU on agricultural commodity trade, as well as collaboration with experts and government agencies.
