Project Pitch
Bina Products delivers a locally manufactured, biodegradable alternative to imported plastic-based sanitary pads, addressing both menstrual health challenges and environmental pollution. Using enset plant fiber, an abundant Ethiopian resource, Bina produces safe, absorbent, and culturally appropriate menstrual products designed for low-income and underserved communities.
The business operates as a hybrid social enterprise. Revenue is generated through B2B and B2C sales of disposable and reusable pads to pharmacies, NGOs, institutions, and urban and peri-urban consumers. Profits are reinvested to subsidize free or low-cost distribution to schoolgirls and vulnerable women through partnerships with schools, government offices, NGOs, and public health programs.
Operations are locally anchored. Enset fiber is sourced from smallholder farmers, while production is carried out by trained women and local tailors, creating employment and skills development opportunities. Distribution is managed through retail outlets, community organizations, and humanitarian partners. This integrated model ensures financial sustainability, measurable social impact, and environmental responsibility while positioning Bina as a scalable solution to menstrual health challenges in Ethiopia and beyond.
