As affirmed during the 2022 EU–AU Summit, digital cooperation is central to the EU–AU strategic partnership and a key driver of sustainable economic growth.
The Data Governance in Africa Initiative is a collaborative effort aimed at unlocking the potential of Africa’s data economy within the strategic frameworks of the AU Digital Transformation Strategy for Africa, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the AU Data Policy Framework.
The Initiative supports the harmonisation of data policies, fosters value creation through data-driven use cases, and enables investment in green and secure digital infrastructures. Together, these efforts contribute to the African Union’s aspiration to build an inclusive African Digital Single Market.
