SynergySynergy is Western Australia’s largest electricity generator and energy retailer, servicing more than one million residents and businesses across the South West Interconnected System (SWIS), which extends from Kalbarri in the north to Kalgoorlie in the east and Albany in the south. This includes many large mining and mineral processing customers. Synergy owns, operates or has interests in a portfolio of electricity generating assets, including thermal power stations, wind and solar farms and hybrid systems, with the majority located throughout the SWIS. In the 2022-23 financial year, Synergy’s generation portfolio of 6,526GWh constituted almost 40 percent of generation in the Wholesale Electricity Market. In 2022, Synergy’s owner, the Western Australian Government, announced it would retire all State- owned coal-fired generation assets by 2030, impacting Muja Power Station and Collie Power Station. To assist with replacing this generation capacity, the State Government has committed more than $3 billion, through Synergy, for 410MW of renewable generation and 1,100MW / 4,400MWh of new battery storage. This includes funding for Kwinana Battery Energy Storage System 2 (200MW / 800MWh) and Collie Battery Energy Storage System (500MW / 2,000MWh), both currently being constructed, as well as for the development of King Rocks Wind Farm (142.6MW) and the expansion of Warradarge Wind Farm (up to 108MW) – this project will be delivered through Bright Energy Investments (of which Synergy is a 19.9 percent shareholder). Aligned to this, Synergy continues to investigate new generation and storage opportunities to meet the State Government’s decarbonisation commitments and in response to its customer’s demand for lower emission energy options. As part of this, Synergy continues to evolve its range of products and services to suit its customers, while ensuring no one is left behind. Guided by its four strategic pillars - Customer centric, Solutions focused, Proactive and Social value - Synergy has recently been named the Most Trusted Brand in Utilities in Australia by Roy Morgan.
