Eclipse OpenJ9
Open Source Projects
Information
Eclipse OpenJ9 is a high performance, enterprise calibre, flexibly licensed, openly governed cross platform Java Virtual Machine (JVM) extending and augmenting the runtime technology components from the Eclipse OMR project (www.eclipse.org/omr) and OpenJDK project (http://openjdk.java.net).
OpenJ9 is highly optimized for fast startup, low memory footprint, quick ramp-up, and excellent throughput performance, both in dedicated as well as cloud deployments.
The JVM, formally known as the J9 virtual machine, was donated to the Eclipse Foundation by IBM, who continue their development activities in the open. This project operates with a fully open governance model so that the entire Java community has the freedom to both use and contribute to this technology.
Eclipse OpenJ9 is a source code project, which does not distribute its own binaries. However, OpenJDK binaries that embed Eclipse OpenJ9 can be found at AdoptOpenJDK (https://adoptopenjdk.net/?variant=openjdk8&jvmVariant=openj9). These binaries also leverage tests and test infrastructure built at AdoptOpenJDK to become fully integrated with the rest of the Java community's activity around building OpenJDK and Java SE platform technology.
