The Wokingham project focused on local employment, engagement with the local community and social value add from its initial inception, throughout design and into construction and beyond. Utilising the SCAPE framework, the collaborative approach taken by Balfour Beatty and Wokingham Borough Council meant that specific local benefits were identified and used as KPIs throughout the process.
The significant local benefits delivered included:
• £34m of social value benefit put directly back into the community
• 91% local employment
• £27m spent locally, £25m with local SMEs
• 7,189 students engaged with
• 75 weeks of work placements
• £44,000 worth of local charitable donations distributed
• 965 enquiries answered
