The KopiCup
Inventions
Information
Sustainable practices are not new concepts. The early generations of hawkers created circular reuse models through frugal innovation. One example that is ubiquitous in the kopitiam drinks stall or the hawker center’s kopi stalls is the reused milk tin can, refashioned with a raffia string for ease of carry. Rather than simply importing global ideals of sustainability, we could learn alot from traditional attitudes towards responsible consumption and frugal disposal. Contrary to popular belief, the kopi hawkers who continue such practice are environmentally-conscious, converting the used milk tin cans into improvised take away cups. This practice is also a source of pride for one’s coffee as the tin can does not adulterate the aroma of the coffee, unlike paper or styrofoam cups.
The KopiCup revives this traditional circular practice in the most advanced materials and processes to create an optimal user experience. Reborn as a vacuum flask, the KopiCup keeps the drink hot or cold for hours with its double wall stainless steel construction. The lid is made of PP, a durable and recyclable plastic, and has an innovative threaded screw design that will ensure it is leak proof and stain-free when opened. Like the raffia string handle of the upcycled milk tin can, a braided cord makes KopiCup easy to carry or hang even when your hands are full. Highly customisable, the braided cord adds a stylish touch and can be easily changed within seconds for a play of colours.
