The meaning of “yesterday” for the architecture of tomorrow
How can the dialogue between old and new develop? It is essential here to recognise the quality of a building in its structural setting. The Spanish CaSA Colombo and Serboli architects set out the original features for the renovation together with the client. In an area of 75 m2 they created a bright apartment, that reawakened the details of the original art nouveau building from the early 19th century with contemporary language. The Klinker Apartment is located in Born, the oldest and one of the most desirable districts of Barcelona.
Impressive depth of colour: the flat comes alive with the targeted deployment of colour to combine the modern and the historical. The heart of the apartment focuses on the open, light and airy kitchen with a central island, that flows into a small, niche-like work area and a comfortable living room. The vivid peach-coloured terracotta tone forms the leitmotif of the interior design and is taken from the kitchen into the work niche and the bathroom. A floor-to-ceiling window offers an exclusive view over the district.
The original Hidráulico floors in the living room and bedrooms catch the eye immediately and, along with the retained art nouveau corner stucco motifs and the burgundy-coloured ceilings, they reflect the historical structure. A cooler, light green colour was chosen for the bedrooms to radiate peace and comfort. Charming details such as an integrated bullseye ensure that more light enters the space. All the furniture in the apartment is made to measure.
The classic in colour. Waking emotions, setting the tone and creating an impression. The Klinker Apartment is fitted with the classic JUNG LS 990 design in Les Couleurs® Le Corbusier colours.
