New Vision City

New Vision City is an Indigenous dance theatre work with six First Nations artists spanning street dance, skateboarding, roller skating and vogueing. Created for children and families, the production draws on each artist's Culture and Country to tell contemporary First Nations stories through movement. Led by Torres Strait Islander artist Ghenoa Gela, the work explores the intersection of First Nations cultural knowledge and street-style practices. As Gela describes, street styles are "a contemporary site of resistance and pride, a space where First Nations artists can assert sovereignty over their stories, their bodies and the ground beneath them." New Vision City expands family programming with a First Nations voice, combining street styles with cultural integrity. The work broadens dance theatre while creating meaningful connections with audiences.
