Information

The Box is a multi- award-winning new Australian work by acclaimed Palawa playwright Nathan Maynard and Murri-born, Nipaluna-raised artist Rob Braslin, following a successful regional and metropolitan Tasmanian tour. The Box has no fly requirements, is tour-ready and is suitable for black box and proscenium arch venues with a minimum 300-seat capacity. Set in the fictional housing commission suburb of Bowendale, this gritty, darkly comic, and profoundly moving drama for contemporary adult theatre audiences captures the raw truth of a community rarely seen on stage. Directed by Nathan Maynard, this compelling family drama invites audiences to reflect on resilience, love, intergenerational trauma, and the courage it takes to break free from cycles of adversity, with post-show Q&As available.

Company / Artist Bio
Mudlark Theatre champions diversity of stories on our stages, providing a platform for important, timely and provocative conversations;theatre that helps people see the world and live in it differently. Our annual artistic program has local resonance and universal significance, unearthing voices from our island community and beyond. Mudlark plays a key role in the cultural landscape of Lutruwita/Tasmania, developing bold, original theatre that inspires and challenges audiences and the next generation of theatre makers. We seek to make theatre a safe space by breaking down barriers that keep people off the stage and out of the audience, and create experiences that connect artists, audiences, and community through both the making and performance of high quality contemporary theatre.

Reviews
"It was close to the bone, raw and at times incredibly painful. At the same time, I was moved by the depth of authenticity and honesty in the storytelling. It opened an incredibly vulnerable space for all of us." - Denise Robinson, Arts Hub
