THE CENSOR

THE CENSOR is a show by kids, for kids, and their adults; in collaboration with theatre-makers Vidya Rajan and Cassandra Fumi. Developed through child-led practice in a process that prioritises a model of co-devising and decision-making, the project brings together an award-winning, all-female creative team including Dramaturg, Emma Valente; Set & Costume Designer, Romanie Harper; Composer, Rachel Lewindon, and Lighting Designer, Emma Lockhart-Wilson. The work was inspired by the increase in social concern about what children should be allowed to consume. From book banning, to pop culture, to social media laws, it's a topic that's alive and urgent today, reflected squarely in the public sphere. Yet, it's always only the adults talking. What do children think about these decisions? What assumptions are being made about their agency and safety? And what would we understand, if we could glimpse how they make their own decisions about what they consume? THE CENSOR asks us to consider not just how adults see their children, but how children see their adults. Illuminating the possibility of the future we make together when we see each other more clearly.
