Information

Pinokes reimagines the classic Pinocchio tale through a fresh theatrical lens, embracing the story’s coming-of-age narrative, while layering themes of transformation, sustainability and moral ambiguity. Our Pinokes aims to create an TYA experience that is funny and safe, but genuinely scary. We’re interested in drama without trauma, the kind of cathartic theatre that allows children to encounter big themes (death, change, grief, empathy) in ways that are both theatrical and meaningful. The eco-dramaturgical adaptation is set in a futuristic, post-climate-collapse world, a thematic extension of our last hit piece, Last Landscape. We’re imagining a world where wood is scarce, where stories and myths must adapt in order to survive. Through this lens, Pinocchio becomes not only a tale of individual transformation, but a metaphor for ecological resilience and intergenerational hope.

Bad New Days
Company / Artist Bio
Bad New Days is an award winning theatre company led by Adam Paolozza. Our work holds a unique presence in Canadian theatre creating visually bold, physically innovative works that explore the complexity of the human condition through a volatile blend of lightness and gravity. Our aesthetic, "tragic exuberance", challenges theatrical naturalism giving primacy to the body, to image, and emotion in storytelling to discover new contemporary theatrical forms evolved to respond directly to the chaotic times we live in. Since the pandemic, eco-dramaturgy has become central to our practice, embedding sustainability in all levels of process, from production design to the storytelling itself.

Praise for previous works: “Mesmerizing” - Toronto Star "A genre-defying, awe-inspiring piece of live performance which merely asks the audience to be present, and to wonder at the world along with the performers." - A View from the Box
