Wilds is ROOKE’s call for increased respect for our world, and a reminder to tell our mother we love her. Built in a pit of three tonnes of enriched soil, Wilds is a high-stakes, non-verbal, and emotionally resonant circus duet.
The show opens with a sole figure shaping the earth. A second person enters, and after a period of connection, our Earth Mother reveals the secrets buried under the surface. After an ill-advised attempt to preserve and protect the landscape fails, it is left to our Earth Mother to repair the damage. But was she ever under threat? Do we need to save the Earth that has outlasted us, or should we focus on conserving our place on it?
A surprising and simple yet intricate environment, propelled by a dynamic, pulsing,
and tender score. Wilds is a meditation on life, soil and care.

In 2021, Tony Rooke pulled together four of the world’s most in-demand acrobats who, by chance, were in Tasmania, escaping COVID . Before coming together, collectively they have performed with companies including Circa, Gravity and Other Myths, Cirque du Soleil, Cirque Éloize, Circus Oz and The 7 Fingers.
Five years and seven full-length works later, ROOKE are a Tasmanian institution. Their works are engaging, fun, often virtuosic and never half-baked and have played to audiences in places in Tasmania that only locals know.
ROOKE’s focus is on storytelling, skill, and sustainability; underdogs who always deliver.
